It’s Shamrock Shake Time
February 22, 2014
It took until this weekend for me to hear the words “Shamrock Shake.” I was going to McDonalds to get a milk shake when I saw “Shamrock Shake” advertised in every window. I decided to be a little adventurous and try something new, so I ordered one.
I have bought three of these shakes in the last four days and am beginning to be one of the many McDonald’s Shamrock Shake followers.
Apparently, these shakes have been around for quite a while and have a massive following.
Close to every high school teenager and teacher know about the shake. As I walked through the hallways returning from a field trip with one, everyone who passed me had to comment on it. Most were surprised it was already out for sale. Some ‘shakers’, however, wait on the edge of their seats until they come out every February.
Adam Darling, a senior at Waterford High School, said, “They are so good. I don’t really know what else to say. The only reason I live in February is for Shamrock Shakes.”
A critic like WHS Senior Elaina Sullivan says, “I am not a big fan of them. They have this minty flavor that really turns me off, on and then off again.”
The shakes are a great product and marketing tool for McDonalds because it draws a more health-conscious crowd to their drive-thrus. I am not a fan of McDonalds but will most likely be there a few more times to enjoy the simple combination of low fat milk and mint extract.
Shamrock Shakes were first available to buy February 7 and are sold until St. Patrick’s Day.
