Right after Thanksgiving, most people are ready to get in the Christmas spirit. Whether you put your decorations up the day after Thanksgiving or you wait a week or two, there’s one essential you need to pull everything together: The Christmas tree.
Some people prefer to buy a fake one from the store so they don’t have to repurchase one each year. The prices range anywhere from $50-$200 depending on where you buy it and what size you are looking to get. For some, it’s the only option because they are allergic to the real tree, others just like it because it seems more convenient to them.
Some still choose to buy the real thing. Junior Ellie Alexander, buys her tree from Seven Cedar Farm, a small family owned farm near her brother’s college, Bryant University in RI. She purchased her tree for $70, which she believes is a good deal. Some aspects that she likes about the farm are that “It is family owned and they give good deals. Our tree was actually 8ft but it was kind of skinny, so they sold it to us for the price of a 7ft.” She believes that they will purchase from them again in the future.
Junior Leah Sanders buys hers from Christensen Trees, a local tree farm in East Lyme. She their “amazing” hot chocolate and peanut butter cookies they have to offer.
An option closer to Waterford is Hartikka in Voluntown, CT. This is where Isabel Henry likes to purchase her tree from. She also got a 7ft tree for $70, but this farm comes with more to offer. She particularly enjoys that “It has food trucks each year like Dixie Donuts and Wood Fellas Pizza as well as a nice indoor gift shop with a wood fire.” Her family buys their tree from here every year and they love everything about it.
Another great place to purchase one is Geer’s Tree Farm in Griswold, Marco Tonucci bought his from there this year. His favorite part is that, “they put a whole in the bottom of the tree so its easier to put up when you get home”.
Whether you prefer a real or fake Christmas tree, there are great deals for both. Most trees around here are about $70 for a 7ft, which is what most people choose. If you’re new to town or just looking to switch things up this year for the holidays, there are definitely plenty of options around!
