Excitement builds up for one of the most anticipated events in high school–Prom 2025! Everyone is going to be on the lookout for the perfect dress to make a statement.
There are upcoming trends for prom week. For girls, there are new fashions for dresses, whether they’re picnic dresses, sparkly dresses, or poofy dresses.
Girls at WHS spend a lot of time and money trying to find the perfect dress. However, some girls like to consider if the dress is in style. While most people like to make statements and find their dress they most feel that is themselves, a lot of girl’s like to find similar styles of dresses.
From a spring 2020 collection, the online website “Sherri Hill” dates their most popular dresses on their website, going through the years. Sherri Hill is a popular store/website that many girl’s shop from. Found on the page from 2020 is mostly ball gown, poofy dresses. However, there is also a trend with a mermaid style dress that shows bold and bright colors.
With that being said, going back three to five years ago, many girls have followed the trend of more bold designs and whole outfits, including makeup and hair. The vibrant colors and statement dresses were used to showcase confidence and bring attention to the special day. Recently, those bold dresses started to shift to what is widely known as “picnic dresses”. These dresses are more flowy and typically have pastel colors and flowers on them. However, last year the most popular dress worn typically had a corset style, satin, tubed, or rhinestones and glitter.
This year, the trends are leaning towards versatility and personalization. Dresses with different prints, bold colors, and types of fabrics. Sustainability is also becoming a major consideration, with many upcycled dresses. Girls are reaching out to their upperclassmen or graduated friends to see if they are willing to lend their dresses for the night.
Noticing the drastic shift in recent years on prom dress trends, senior, Amelia Stoddard, says, “Prom dresses have changed crazy because last year they were very outgoing and sparkly and this year they are simple and people put their own touch on them with accessories.”
With the ability to have different grades at WHS prom, there were a good amount of sophomores and seniors going to the junior prom last year.
Considering the different preference and styles for prom, Junior Jenny Blankenship noticed a trend in prom dresses last year, as she attended Junior prom as a sophomore with her boyfriend. The question that will be asked is if this trend will continue into this year’s prom.
Blankenship says, “There were really 2 different styles of dresses that I took notice of that evening. There were a lot of girl’s wearing tight fitting floor length dresses, then some girl’s that were wearing more of a ballgown style. My personal style, and choice of dress I wore, was more of the ballgown type so I would say yes, the trends I saw aligned with my own style”
Blankenship had good things to say about her prom experience, she said, “I would say just the experience and joy of going. I had so much fun with the people I went with and the event was just such a great experience itself”
What can influence others and their choice of dress are the prom instagram accounts that show the students in either the senior or junior class what their classmates decide to wear. Typically, these accounts are made in December, which is around the time girl’s start to dress shops.
Stoddard says, “Something that influenced my choice for dress was seeing what other people were wearing and trying to almost stay in the same design without copying them.”
Whether you’re planning to dazzle in sequins or keep it simple and chic, this year’s prom trends have something for everyone. So, what style will you be rocking at Prom 2025?
