On Friday, August 31st, the Waterford High School senior class went to Brownstone Adventure Park for their senior trip. To pay for the trip, the senior class advisors had to change tradition.
Instead of having a junior and senior prom, they combined the two so that they could save money. The senior class advisors, Mr. Alchrona and Mrs. Force, wanted to use leftover money to do something fun for the seniors. The class council met at the end of last year and decided to go to Brownstone Adventure Park.
Brownstone Adventure Park is a water park in Portland, CT. They have zip lines, cliff jumps, wake boarding, and obstacle courses. There were only a few things there that weren’t included, like wake boarding and paddle boarding.
According to Senior Angeles Pina-Rodriguez, “Brownstone was so much fun. It had zip lines that brought you into the water, cliff jumping, a water slide, inflatable obstacle courses and a lot more. I just wish they added more inflatables, but other than that I really enjoyed the trip.”
The 2025 class council ran many fundraisers to raise enough for their class. These included the vendor fair, class shirts, and cookie dough sales. The total cost for the trip was $9,200 and each student had to pay $10.
Senior Class President Katie Jamroga said, “Ultimately, we decided that since we were able to save a considerable amount of money through combining the grades’ proms, putting it towards an event that would unify the whole grade was the best decision.”
As for the prom controversy within the senior class, Senior Olivia Marelli notes that the junior prom last year had a lot of sophomores going anyway, so the seniors may as well get something out of it this year.
Marelli added, “I think that the trip was definitely worth the combined prom and I wish every class before us could have experienced that too because I don’t think that anyone has gotten a kick off senior trip like ours.”
Overall, the seniors enjoyed the trip and are okay with the combined prom. According to Marelli, “This senior trip left us with a lot of memories and it was worth the combined prom.”
