Dancing to a New School Year
It’s been four weeks since has school started, which is plenty of time for all incoming freshmen and returning students to get settled. Everyone is comfortable now and last weekend was the perfect time for the first dance of the 2013-2014 school year.
The dance was held last Saturday in the Field House from 7-10pm. Students from all grades in the high school were encouraged to attend for a night of fun out with their friends.
The word was buzzing around campus about the dance. Mostly about the new dance craze called “twerking”. In advisory, during World Wide Wednesday, students discussed an article about Miley Cyrus’s performance at the VMAs and whether the style of dancing was acceptable. Many students laughed and said that it was perfectly fine because “we’re only dancing and having fun. We’re not doing anything bad.”
The following Monday students didn’t have as much to say about the dance. A few students made comments about who was there and that the majority of the students were seniors, but not much was discussed about the actual type of dancing.
Senior Krystal Thomas did comment but felt twerking wasn’t a major concern. “I thought it was really fun. I had a great time with my friends, despite the fact a few people were dancing a little inappropriately.”
