Adrianna Caba is a student-athlete here at Waterford High School. She has been cheering on the high school cheer team for three years
Caba started gymnastics after learning how to do cartwheels and handstands in her free time. She says, “I tried gymnastics for a little while, until my friend suggested I try cheer”
She started cheering in sixth grade and continued to do it in high school. She choose high school cheer over a more competitive cheer like ECE or Xtreme because she like the environment of the school cheer better. She says, “I like the environment of Waterford High School cheer program and I liked being able to represent my school”
Beside cheering at football and basketball games, Adrianna appears on the competition mat as well. Caba has been part of three ECC Championships and in 2023 and won the grand championship overall.
Her individual awards include being a three time All-Stater for cheer for Class M since her freshman year, ECC-All Star for the last two years, and op scorer in Division Two this year.
Unlike sideline cheer, competitive cheer is more complex. What keeps Caba motivated during the competition cheer season she says is that it “helps me become the best version of myself and I am constantly thinking about what I need to improve to make me the best version of myself”
Beyond the world of high school cheer, Caba participates in coaching the youth cheerleaders as well. She plays the role of an assistant coach by helping with stunts and cheers, coaching at the games and helping out with there own competition they have later in the season
Caba says, “I want everyone to be able to enjoy cheerleading the same way I do, and If I can help build the youth program It can help the high school program because one day those girls will be coming up to the high school”
Adrianna also plays leadership role this year becoming co-captain for the team alongside Captain Rebbcea Roarke.
Whether she’s on the mat or helping as a coach, cheerleading has shaped Caba into the person she is today, teaching her how to keep a positive mindset during obstacles she faces in life, she says,
Caba says “cheerleading made me who I am today by teaching me patience and resilience and how to always stay in a positive mindset”
After high school Caba looks forward to continuing her cheerleading career during college as it has been a part of her life for so long now.
