Madison Nott, 12, Softball
Why do you play softball?
I play softball because I love the game and I love to play with all my friends.
When did you start playing softball?
I started playing when I was 6 years old
As a senior, how do you want to be remembered?
I want to be remembered as a team leader, the girl who was always loud on the field and not afraid to play attitude. I also want to be known as a successful player on the field.
What are you going to miss about playing at WHS?
I am for sure going to miss playing for all of the coaches. I am really going to miss playing with all of the seniors for the last time since we’ve been playing together our entire lives. I wanted to play on our new field but that doesn’t look like it is going to happen. But I am going to miss putting on a jersey that says “lancers”.
What does being a Lancer mean to you?
Representing Waterford as being a lancer is special because I am able to know that the students will always have our teams back while on the field.
What is the best thing about being a part of Lancer Nation?
Being known, everyone knows Lancer Nation showing up in different games. Lancer Nation was awesome when they all came out to support the softball team during the state championship. Being a fan is also awesome because everyone is together cheering on our school games.
How do you feel about what has happened to your season thus far?
I am very upset about this season, COVID-19 has literally ruined my entire senior season and I don’t really know how to act. I try to stay positive but when I am outside and hitting or throwing I get really upset. Mostly, I get really upset because I can’t play with the other seniors who are my friends. I do not know what to do at home, I am used to being at the field and hanging out with the team or going to Fred’s with a few friends but we cant even do that anymore.
Are you planning on playing any sports in college?
Yes, I am going to continue my softball career
What has been your favorite memory while playing with the Lancers?
Definitely winning a State Championship. But a lot of the memories come from all the goofy things that happen during practice that either gets us in trouble or someone is crying laughing.
If you are able to play this season, what are your goals?
My goals for this season were to be all-state and win another state championship.
What have you been doing during your quarantine time?
I have been working out, watching a lot of Netflix, facetiming my friends, annoying my parents, playing with my dog and not really doing online school work.
What is some advice for other athletes who are sad about the outcomes of their senior season due to coronavirus?
Stay positive. I keep thinking that we will be able to play a couple games at least even if it’s during the summer. There is not much we can do except social distancing. Keep practicing because hopefully we will be able to play soon.
If you could say anything to your teammates and coaches what would it be?
I miss everyone, and I take back all the times I said I did not want to be at practice because I would love to be on the field with my friends again.
Can you provide some encouraging words for Lancer Nation during these uncertain time?
Stuff happens, we have to make the best of it and keep positive.
