New Dress Code Policy
Before school started, students received a letter that had with the “The WHS Dress Code Guide 2013-2014 School Year” brochure.
The brochure is simple: it has the dress code policy on it along with pictures of what is and is not appropriate school-day attire.
Social media sites buzzed with students’ comments regarding the new rules. During the first week of school, numerous students were cited for violating the new dress code. Being written up for violating the dress code policy scared some people enough to conform, while others continued to disobey.
Sophomore Hannah Niedojadlo conformed to the new policy, openly admitting that she was afraid to wear shorts of any kind.
Freshamn Alaina Moger opposed the new dress code because “it is unfair for people who have long arms and fingers.”
Some students support the dress code.
Senior Shashwat Kala said, “The new dress code is appropriate since we are here to learn.”
Junior Sara Pacheco said, “The new dress code is good because it forces people to dress with more class.”
Some students, however, did not have an opinion.
“I didn’t even know we had a new dress code,” stated senior Schneider Jean-Pierre.
The new dress code affects girls more than boys. However, despite the majority of boys being unaffected, some do have opinions about it.
“It restricts me from wearing my running shorts to school, ” said senior CJ Hersom.
The biggest complaint is that wearing something as unprovocative as their sports uniform would breach the dress code. Wearing uniforms on game days is a big tradition.
After the first couple of weeks, students have become more accepting of the new policy, and fewer students have been cited for dress code violations.
