Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Alvarez and released on August 14th of this year, is one of the scariest and most insane sci-fi movies of 2024.
The horror Sci-fi series Alien that has been popular since the ’80s. This franchise consists of seven movies: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien: Resurrection (1997), Alien: Prometheus (2012), Alien: Covenan
t (2017), and the latest installment of the franchise, Alien: Romulus (2024). This movie takes place between Prometheus and Covenant, despite it coming out last.
This movie has a 7.4/10 on IMDb, an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 3.75/5 on Letterboxd. What makes this movie unique from other sci-fi horror is that the monsters in the movie aren’t CGI. Instead, a 7’7’’ tall basketball player named Robert Bobroczkyi and Trevor Newlin who is 6 ‘7 in hyper realistic suits.
The story follows a group of friends: Rain, Kay, Andy (who is an android), Tyler, Bjorn, and Navarro, who live on a distant planet where they are forced to work like slaves until they die. The group plans to go to another planet with an abandoned spaceship, which has something they can use to escape and return to earth. However, the ship is littered with dangerous aliens.
At first, the movie can be hard to follow, but the good thing about this movie is that it is not necessary to watch any of the other movies in the franchise to understand what’s going on. However, it is recommended to watch the other ones.
If a person is sensitive to blood and gore or are easily scared, it is not recommended for them to watch this movie. If you thought Aliens were not scary before, this movie will change your mind. It is intense, gross, and disturbing, including aliens that are an octopus-spider hybrid. They suck the guts out from inside the body while also choking the victim until they are able to take over the body and explode the victim’s body from the inside.
This movie was very well written. Its creative and shocking storytelling will definitely have you on the edge of your seat. Although, if you’re looking for a movie with a perfect ending, this movie isn’t for you. Many movie reviewers say the movie had a bit of a lackluster ending, but left enough questions for a gateway to another installment into the Alien movie franchise.
