REVIEW: Selena Gomez's "Revival"

On October 9th, Selena Gomez released her new album “Revival”. The album is supposed to capture how she’s leaving her past of being on Disney and dating Justin Bieber, to becoming a new, better version of herself. She’s focusing on being in charge of her life.

In one of the lines in her new song, she sings, “What I’ve learned is so vital. More than just survival, this is my revival.” This line expresses that Gomez has learned from her past, and is going to become the best version of herself.

The first song that was released early was “Good For You,” over the summer. This song is catchy, and ASAP Rocky is featured in a rap part of the song. Unexpectedly, it became a big success. It recently hit No. 1 on Billboard’s pop chart. The next song that Interscope released was “Same Old Love.”

“Same Old Love” is a song about a heart wrenching break-up. Although it was a mutual decision between the two people, it left one broken. The song states, “You left in peace, left me in pieces. Too hard to breathe, I’m on my knees.” One can only guess that this song is a personal reflection of her time spent dating Bieber.

According to a recent New York Times article, Gomez commented, “I knew deep down this isn’t what I wanted to do – being exhausted of forcing something that wasn’t right, even in my personal life.”

“Revival” is a great album. Personally for Gomez, it captures everything she has to say about becoming a better version of herself. The songs can be uplifting to people going through similar challenges, and encourage them to pursue what they really want to do in life.
