Think bright and bold when picking out a color for a shirt. Pantone, a fashion and home company, announced Honeysuckle Red as the Color of the Year.
Junior Maria Kurisoo said, “The color red is nice because it stands out and accents the tones in your skin.”
Go ahead and pull a “Taylor Swift”, throw on that red lipstick and be confident about it!
“It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka dot bikini”! Retro and vintage by association, polka dots haven’t been fashion’s premiere pattern in ages, since Julia Roberts showed up at a polo match in the 1990 film Pretty Woman.
Now, designers have reenergized this print, making it fresh again in a variety of styles, such as cardigans, shirts, and shorts. The classic polka dot print made many runway appearances in during New York’s Fashion Week, ranging from bold graphic circles to tiny spots.
Although fashionista have deemed the polka dotted print is in, there are different opinions on it.
Kurisoo said, “I think anything polka dot is tacky because it’s what little kids wear.”
The objective to pulling off polka dots is to refrain from looking like a school kid, and keep it sleek and chic.
Flapper-inspired fringe had made its way from the Roaring Twenties to the present. With the buzz in Hollywood about the remake of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio and fashion darling Carrey Mulligan, and directed by Baz Luhrmann, the swinging accent has been seen on every fashion runway. Fringe vests and fringe skirts have been making their way into many stores, such as Forever 21.
Junior Allison Smith said, “I like fringe pieces for shirts because they hide [place that people are insecure [about] such as [your] stomach.”
As edgy as fringe may seem, it is easy to pull off without seeming like a flapper from the 1920s. Pairing a plain t-shirt and your favorite jeans with a fringe vest is all it takes to pull off this fun and fresh look .
