On October 4th, 2023, Waterford High School held its annual Lancer Fair.
Waterford High School hosts a number of extracurriculars, sports, and electives, and the most effective way to keep these programs running is for upperclassmen representatives to promote their groups to younger students.
In a typical year, the eighth graders will get on the bus and head to the high school to see all the clubs and sports available at the high school. However, this year, for the first time, freshmen and sophomores also missed class to join in on the fun.
Mrs. Pesko and Mr. Roberts, the WHS teaching assistant principals, headed the committee for the Lancer Fair this year. They coordinated all of the club representatives to ensure every student understood their job regarding proper attire and how to engage younger students in conversation.
Activities with booths ranged from the Spanish program to Boy’s Soccer to the Yearbook Club. There was even a booth scouting future journalists to join The Lancelot. WHS volleyball player Keniyah Hill was surprised by the diversity of clubs available to her, despite being a freshman at the school. “I talked to a lot of my older friends about the groups they are really passionate about, as well as people I didn’t know before,” Hill says. “I’m glad to know that no matter what interests I choose to pursue in high school, I have a wide variety of activities to choose from that will support those interests.” With 57 groups present at the fair alone, the opportunities to find activities at WHS that pique your interest are endless.
